Juhudi Women Group is a group of inter-denominational women working together in an effort to improve their lives. The women all have businesses in the local Mbale market. The members work to uplift themselves from poverty by helping one another build stable businesses and make a contribution toward their families’ and the community’s needs. The community where the women live has multiple problems for women and girls. Wife battering is common, there is a high rate of illiteracy, and women are expected to stay in the home and not participate in community life. The JWFG women hope to help overcome these challenges by venturing into business themselves and supporting their girl children to get an education. The members of this group belong to several different Christian denominations, among them the Pentecostal Assemblies of God, Kenya African Divine Church, and the Society of Friends. In addition, the chairwoman is a Muslim.
