Fish buying and selling
36 fisherwomen in an isolated village
Seed Funding Date:
The women in the GCDF group received their loans in January 2017 after being trained by the RSWR team. The women buy fish from the local fishermen and then smoke the fish and carry it to markets in Liberia for sale. The women have all more than doubled their income, and their lives in the village have improved substantially.
One “happy” problem the group wrote of in their six-month report was that there was such a high demand for the women’s smoked fish products that they couldn't get enough fish to supply the demand! The women have worked to reach out to fishermen in other communities to bring fish to Sulima for them to buy.
Word about the success of the women in the GCDF group got around, and GCDF has been inundated with requests for help from women in nearby areas. They have worked with another group of women in a nearby village to apply for an RSWR grant.
