Half Yearly Report on the Project “Tribal (Yandi) women's Social & Economic Empowerment through Cultivating Vegetables and Mushrooms”

Introduction: Achieving the Tribal ( Yandi) women's empowerment is a challenging task in rural areas in Andhra Pradesh, India the objectives and the vision of the RSWR have impressed the organization much and have stimulated to quench their support to carry out the proposed empowerment activities. The PAID organization and the beneficiaries are thanking to your esteemed concern RSWR for the appropriate assistance rendered in time. Here with we wish to furnish the performed activities and its impact to you. Hope that the PAID organization will conquer over its objectives with in the stipulated period.

 

This report carries the activities implemented during the past six months. It was major concern of the PAID organization for delivering the struggling and the suffering oppressed Tribes from their crushing clusters of the poverty at this juncture the PAID organization was told by other NGO's and the consultants to ascertain cooperation and assistance of the RSWR because of their concept on developing these down trodden Tribes. It was necessary for the PAID organization to accumulate and score the RSWR's cohesive cooperation to envisage fully

Background of the Project: Yerpedu Mandal of Chittoor District in A.P., India which is drought prone area populating with the majority of Tribes. They are depending on the seasonal agronomy and on the un-organized sectors. This has paved them the way for struggling continuously. They are skilled in cultivating vegetables and Mushrooms but unable to invest and start with their own. Their labour have been grabbed by the elites and paid with tiny amount in this regard they are cheated by the money lenders for years to gather. While the PAID organization were conducting the survey have funded with these needs of these people in terms of financial assistance for skill trainings and general awareness and on activating as groups and earn their regular

Project objectives

- To avail the women SHG's the raw materials to enabling them to Cultivate the vegetables and Mushrooms

- To involve every women in the group collectively in Cultivate the vegetables and Mushrooms

- To ascertain them with the regular marketing

- To ensure the group as well as individuals regular earning viabilities and achieving their sustainability

 

Project beneficiaries: The identified women from 6 Tribal (Yanadi) women SHG's 60 women of Yerpedu mandal in Andhra Pradesh are from two villages; totally they are depending daily wage earning agricultural labourers. These women are belongs to Tribal (Yanadi) communities. The women are the bread winners of their families in terms of their whole family members are depending only up on the women though they are not regarded either at homes or in the community in each family there are from 3 to 5 children to be maintained by the women. Through earning their tiny wages the women could not offered any thing to her children unless the women her family members will have to starve because the men of their families are addict the illicit arrack.

Activities carried out:

•  Orientation seminars to motivate to come out of the complexities.

•  Training on Cultivating vegetables and mushroom.

•  Start up money or revolving fund basis

•  Marketing skill orientations.

•  Simple accounting.

•  Cooperatives.

•  Net working.

 

Steering committee formation

The PAID organization have realized about carrying out the proposed activities in meaningful way in accordance with the PAID organization have instructed the women groups to elect 2 women from one group thus 12 women 6 SHGs then they are formed as a steering committee for carrying out this project. This is to ensure the beneficiaries fullest cooperation and their participation in performing successfully because this is their own project benefited by them selves this steering committee members are emphasized on implementing the project successfully the project coordinator will guide them and utilizes the committee for the well implications of the project up to now this steering committee is activating unanimously to achieve the vision of this project

 

Multi trainings: The women beneficiaries are intended to involve with some additional earning activities such as preparing the organic manure and the vermi- compost which are related to their local environment. Based on this the PAID organization have organized them the practical training on preparing the organic manure and the vermi-compost they are learnt easily and have come to a conclusion of preparing these items in a collective manner in this regard the women as a group involved in preparing and in earning their supplemental income the local formers are procuring these items for a reasonable prices. This income makes the women for strengthening their group savings. Besides they are motivated on promoting the savings and the thrift practices in an innovative manner.

Results/Impact: Concerning the imparted skill trainings and other income generating trainings were very prudent and profitable the women are not only learnt either on skills up gradation, promotion of savings and on preparing the organic manure and vermin compost but became a very solid and capable persons to interact with the officials enabling them to ascertaining with their needs. Before implementing this project the women were lacking on many aspects now as a result or impact they are able to realize about them selves. Concerning the impact of these six months implication more over the women whom were struggling and suffering are climbing up on the ladder for quenching their economical growth. Now the women are able to feed their children with needed meal and sending them to the schools in this regard the school dropout menaces are averted, borrowings from moneylenders and the migrations stopped some how. The expected and the determined development can be achieved after the proposed period. Gradually the women will be regarded at homes and in the community.

 

General outcome:

The women faces with no more atrocity nor the exploitation

The women are able to combat with the poverty

The group savings strengthened

•  The total sustainability can be harvested

•  By revolving their savings and earnings they are getting more profits than the previous earnings

Case study: Ms. Rangamma aged about 40 years a widow having four children. So for she was able to faced with defamation, cursing and the social negligence's. She used to borrow from the money lender for a highest rate of interest because of her children education and health. Starvation was their ever going havoc. Now this woman is able to combat with these said arrogances. She earning more than Rs . 3700/- ( $ 92.5) in a month through the vegetables and the Mushrooms vending which is four times above than her previous earnings her children's are accessed to their continuing education and the nutritional food. She is regarded by society.

2. Ms. Kamalamma aged about 39 years having 5 children she is the only bread winner in her family. Though she is having her husband who is a addict of the illicit arrack never bothers about maintaining her family but Kamalamma is the only soul for looking after her siblings with this atmosphere she was not able to provide either education nor health to her children's. Borrowings, mortgaging were going on continuously. Now she is able to feed her children's provide education and averted from borrowings and the mortgaging. Now the community regards and her husband also gradually coming out from the addictions.
